Little Bits

The other day I was getting of the 1 train, rushing to work, trying to get around the tourists that descend upon NYC during the holiday season. There was a girl in front of me, walking slower than I'd have liked, which was hindering my maneuvering skills. I noticed her hand was out, reaching behind her, and she wasn't looking. Otherwise she would've seen me there and I don't think she was trying to grab me-at least I hoped she wasn't. She just placed her hand behind her, grasping for something I was unaware of. When there was no reciprocation, she turned around and saw me trying to get around her.

"Oh, sorry," she laughed as her gaze looked around me. There was a guy there, whom I hadn't seen either. I moved out of their way and she grabbed his hand. Mission complete. Simple.

I walked to work thinking: isn't that all we want in a relationship? To simply know they are there? To know that you don't even have to really look, just have to reach back and know that they're by your side, checking for you as well? Yea, I think so.

So The Beetles were wrong, all you need isn't in fact love, it's a warm hand checking for you on the subway.

That bitch stole my line,

  1. Now THAT is a NY moment! And yes, all we need is someone to hold our hand. Especially on the 1 train...and touristas? Jeeesh.

    Ahhhh...I miss living in NYC.

  4. Maybe the Beatles weren't wrong. They also said: "I Wanna Hold Your Hand." NYers have no issue with interloping on someone's personal space. It's always heartwarming to see the sweet side of life in this cold cold city. good post honey
